She grew up in Lincoln County, daughter of America Jane MARTIN and Robert ALLISON. After her marriage in 1872 in Lincoln County MO, to Edward Thomas MASSIE, son of Robert Graham MASSIE and Elizabeth FOLEY, they travelled overland to Northern California, where Ned spent his life mining for gold, and Mary raised her four children. ]

Interment Will Be at Grass Valley With Funeral to Be Sunday Afternoon. Mrs. Mary
Ellen MASSIE, Widow of the late Edward T. MASSIE, passed away at the home of her daughter
Mrs. Myrtle GRENFELL, in Oakland, on Thursday, January 17, 1929 at 8 p.m. Mrs.
MASSIE had been a great sufferer for the past year from a nervous breakdown and stomach
trouble, but she had borne her suffering with great fortitude.
Mrs MASSIE was born in Lincoln County, Missouri, and at the time of her death was
nearly seventy years of age. She came to California when very young, where she
raised her family. She was a resident of Nevada county for many years, where she was loved
and respected
by all who knew her. In her passing her children have lost a devoted mother. She was
widely known for her hospitality and generosity.
Left to mourn her loss are three children, T. E. MASSIE of Sacramento, Mrs.
F. C. OEVERNDIEK of San Francisco, and Mrs. Myrtle GRENFELL of Oakland. Fred MASSIE,
another son, passed away twenty-four years ago.
Nine grandchildren, Fred B. MASSIE of San Francisco; Mrs. Harry TWIGG of Georgetown; William E. GRENFELL of Oakland; Myrtle and Mary Allison OEVERNDIEK of San Francisco; Ellabel, Jack, Pearl and Freddie MASSIE of Sacramento; also three great grandchildren, Cecil June MASSIE, Iris Henman TWIGG and William Ernest GRENFELL.
The remains will arrive from Oakland on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by Mrs. MASSIE's children and other relatives. The funeral will be held from the Jefford and Son, mortician, parlors at 1 p.m. Sunday.
