Obituary for Silvy Martin (1911-1986)

Funeral services for Silvy MARTIN, age 74, of Troy will be held at the First Baptist Church of Troy, on Thursday, January 30 at 1 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Combs. Interment will be in the Troy City Cemetery.

Mr. MARTIN passed away Tuesday, January 28, 1986, at his residence in Troy following a lengthy illness. He was born March 21, 1911, the son of Edgar Lee and Olive FRY MARTIN. On January 17, 1934 he was married to Melva Lucille GERDIMAN in Troy and to this union seven children were born: Glenn Eldon MARTIN, Gerald Eugene MARTIN, Edgar Allen MARTIN, Melba Lee PAULSMEYER, Lois Marie ILLIG, Joyce Ann SIMMONS, and the late Theodore Silvy MARTIN. Mrs. Lucille MARTIN preceded her husband in death on July 23, 1977. Mr. MARTIN was united in marriage to Lillian SMITH on September 15, 1979 in Troy and she survives. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Lillian MARTIN are three sons: Glenn Eldon MARTIN and wife Barbara of Memphis, Tn., Gerald Eugene MARTIN and wife Nancy of Columbia, Edgar Allen MARTIN and wife Paula of St. Louis; three daughters: Melba Lee PAULSMEYER and husband Joe of Silex, Lois Marie ILLIG and husband Walter of Troy, Joyce Ann SIMMONS and husband Joe of Troy; one step-daughter: Frances Rae GRANNEMANN and husband Leonard of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He is further survived by nine grandchildren: Bruce, Becky, and Amy MARTIN of Memphis, Tn., Carmen, Carol and Glen PAULSMEYER of Silex, Ned ILLIG of Troy and Pam and Ted SIMMONS of Troy and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. MARTIN was preceded in death by his first wife, an infant son, his parents, three brothers: Leslie, Archie and Raymond MARTIN and one sister: Myrtle BARLOW.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, January 29, at the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home of Troy.

Mr. MARTIN was a retired worker from McDonnell Douglas Corp. and a member and deacon for over 33 years at the First Baptist Church of Troy.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Troy or to the donor’s choice.

The Martin family is being served by the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home of Troy.
