George M. Kientzy, 93
Concelebrated Mass for George Martin Kientzy,
93, of Silex was held at 10 a.m. Monday at
St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Millwood.
The Mass was read by Abbot Jerome Hanus
assisted by Fr. Norbert Shappier, both of
Conception; Fr. James Flynn of Troy and
Fr. Anthony Bukauskas, church pastor.
Burial was in Millwood cemetery.
Mr. Kientzy died Saturday Jan. 25, 1986,
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geneva
Bowles at Silex.
Mr. Kientzy was born Oct. 21, 1892, in
Apex, Mo. In Lincoln County, the son of
Seferin and Mary Oeswein Kientzy. On
March 21, l9l4 he was married in Millwood
to Clara Miller who preceded him in
death Aug. 31, 1971.
Mr. Kientzy farmed in the Apex area until he
and his wife moved to a farm near Silex in 1918.
He attended the elementary school in the area of
his birth and returned twice to review the eighth
grade which entitled him to do substitute teaching
in the rural schools. He was a member of
the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Geneva
Bowles of Silex, Mrs. Marie Kunza of Troy and
Mrs. Virginia Gieselman of St. Louis; three sons,
Bro. Pius Kientzy, O.S.B. of Conception, Mo.,
DeSales Kientzy, St. Louis, and Dick Kientzy
of Silex; 35 grandchildren and 58 great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
a daughter Mrs. Angela Phelan; and seven brothers
and sisters.
Pallbearers were Ronald Bowles, Edward Steve
and Rick Kientzy Richard Gieselman and Jim Kunza.
