Obituary for Miss Sarah Hutton (d.1909)
Troy Free Press, Lincoln County, Missouri, February 12, 1909
Miss Sarah HUTTON
The citizens of Old Monroe were saddened by the news of the death of Sarah Jane HUTTON, the beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. HUTTON, January 25, 1909 in the 19th year of her age.
Her sickness was of short duration and her death cast a gloom over the town and vicinity, blotting out the many rays of sunshine which her pleasant smiles and kind words had cast upon those around her.
She had been a member of the Union Sunday school at this place since the first of the year and though a member only a short time, she will be sadly missed. The citizens showed their high esteem of the deceased by many floral offerings, among which was a beautiful floral wreath given by the M. B. A. Lodge of Old Monroe, of which her father is a member. The ladies of Old Monroe gave a beautiful floral wreath. Many other floral offerings were given by individuals whose names we have been unable to get.
Her funeral was preached by Rev. J. S. EAMES, whose words were full of consolation and appropriate remarks.
The long funeral procession gave evidence of her many friends. The procession was preceded by the following girl friends: Misses Sarah DAY, Floy, Etta and Edna POLLARD, Ethel KELLY and Pearl MASSEY.
The pall-bearers were Harry and Guy POLLARD, Virgin COMPTON, Joe MEYERS, Cleve HOUSTON, and John Will KELLY.
Her remains were laid at rest in the Highland Prairie Cemetery.
The deceased leaves a father and mother, two brothers and four sisters to mourn the loss of a kind and loving daughter and sister.
It is the sincere wish of the writer that the father, mother, brothers and sisters will bear up bravely under this sad bereavement and will prepare themselves to meet her in the "Sweet Bye and Bye." C.S.B.
