DEATH OF DR.W.S.HUTT

It is our sad and painful duty to record upon the pages of the FREE PRESS this week the death of one of Troy's best and most useful citizens, Dr. WILLIAM S. HUTT, son of Hon. T.G. HUTT, who died at ..residence, of a congestive chill ...urday morning last, August .. ( 14th jg) 1880, at 8 o'clock. Aged 37 years, 11 months and 26 days.

The day previous to his death ..spent in his saddle, although...unwell, visiting his patients. Returning home late in the evening... in company with Dr. E.L. ...nor( Sydnor jg ), he was taken violently ill .. road; but after resting ... while recovered sufficiently..ride home. He had scarely ...his bed until he was attacked with a congestive chill, and ... intensely until death re--- him. Dr. Ward was called,...he was beyond medical skill. ...th __cold , icey Death__was knocking at the door, and no power on earth could avail.

e realized that the dread hour.... near at hand. He told Dr. Sydnor when he was first attacked he would never recover, and his arrival home imparted the unwelcome news to his wife...... short hours proved that the ... was real.

.. is death is indeed a calamity ...Troy.

He was everybody's friend. No ...,rich or poor, black or white, ...or free ever applied to Dr. .. for a reasonable favor that ... not readily and gladly granted was in his power to bestow...ight was too dark, no sun too... no distance great, to prevent him from visiting the sick ...called. He was always ready ....llars and cents did ot control - he would as cheerfully ride....ty miles to the sickbed or ...... missing........

The following is a brief history: He was born in Troy, August 18,1842, and has resided here all his life. Served as deputy circuit clerk during 1861, and made an efficient and accepable officer. Commenced the study of medicine under Dr. D.T.Waddy in 1862; the winter of 1862-3, attended the St. Louis Medical College, and graduated in medicine at the Unversity of Pennsylvania, the winter of 1862-3, at the age of 21. Served in the Confederate Army, under General Sterling Price, six months; was compelled to resign on account of failing health. Was married to Miss Virginia Cornick, in Livingston, Alabama, August 20, 1868, who with four children, three girls and a boy, survives him. Joined the Christian church in January 1866. Was a Mason in good standing and a member of A.O.U. W. Practiced medicine in this place nearly seventeen years, and was a most successful practioner.

Last Sunday his remains were consigned to the grave in Troy Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted in an impressive manner by elder L. Hatton, pastor of the Christian Church, at the residence of the deceased, in the presence of a large and solemn audience. the almost endless procession that followed his body to its last resting place telll...... terms than can words of rest is missing.
