Obituary for Anna Ethel Holland (1900-1920)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin
Jablonski, 1998.
Anna Ethel, the beloved daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Levi HOLLAND, was born September 23, 1900, and passed away at the home of Wm.. JAMESON, of Troy, February 7, 1920, being at the time of her death 19 years, 4 months and 15 days old.
Her death was due to bronchial trouble of which she was sick only 8 days. Her parents, not knowing of her condition were only with her a few hours before her death. She bore her suffering bravely never complaining, being always cheerful and her death was quite a shock to relatives and friends. Anna was a sweet girl and was loved by all who knew her. She made friends wherever she went with her kind disposition. She was teacher of Chreech School and taught up until she was taken ill, despite the bad weather. This being her second term as teacher of that school she won her way into the hearts of the people in that community as well as others. She had lived a good Christian life and will be sadly missed in her Sunday school and church. She was a member of her home church. Anna was just in the prime of life and was planning great things for her future happiness but God knows best and he took her with Him to dwell forever. She leaves to mourn her departure besides her mother and father, her fiancee and one half-sister, and a host of relatives and friends. She was laid to rest in the Medcalf cemetery Sunday, February 8, where she will await the coming of loved ones.
Weep not dear father and mother. Why she was taken away so young we do not understand. No not now. But in the coming years, it may be in the better land, well then understand. -- A Dear Friend, A. M. C.
