Obituary for John Hasselfeld (1858-1929)
Troy Free Press, Troy, Missouri, August 16, 1929, page 4 column 5.  Transcribed by Rob Taylor.

John HASSELFELD, son of Fred and Henerette HASSELFELD, was born in St. Louis May 15, 1858, and died August 9, 1929, at 5:15 p.m. at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 24 days.

In 1906, he became a member of the Troy Methodist Church and his subsequent life testified to his Christian character and nobleness of purpose.

He was united in marriage to Martha MOSLEY October 3, 1883. To this union were born eight children. All survive but one, Anna Elizabeth, who died at the age of two years. Those living are: Charley, Allie, Mrs. Jess DUNARD, Mrs. Guy STEPANEK, Mrs. Paul STEPANEK, William and Robert all of Troy. Besides the broken hearted children who are left to mourn his departure, he leaves ten grandchildren and a half-sister, Mrs. Johanna HANNA, of Texas, and a large circle of friends.

His wife passed away almost five months ago.

In spite of all that physicians, with the help of his children and friends, could do, death failed to let go its grasp and after a few weeks of suffering with a complication borne so patiently, life went out and death came as sleep to a tired child.

May his spirit prove a beacon light drawing the loved of earth heavenward. May there be a complete family reunion in the Golden City which will last throughout an endless happy eternity.
