Obituary

James HARRELL, son of Sydney and Sarah HARRELL,was born near Brussels, Missouri, June 15, 1879, and when he was 5 years old moved with his parents to Brussells, where he was raised and lived his most of his life, except about two or three years; one year he worked on the railroad and at St. Charles. He started a wagon shop in New Hope in August, 1902; was married to May TEASLEY June, 1903; to this union was born one little girl, Velma, who is too small to realize her great loss.

Jim, as he was called, was a good obedient son while being raised and after he was married he was a loving husband and father and was as good a citizen as we ever knew. In this we speak from knowledge; after he and his wife were married they lived in one half of our house two years while we occupied the other half, and two more agreeable people we never knew. His motto in life was to speak well of his neighbor or not at all. He was a very conscientious man in all his actions. While he never attached himself to any church, his friends among whom he lived and died believed him to be a Christian man, and believed he was only waiting to get able to get to church to offer himself as a member. While working in his shop a job was never good enough until it was just right.

Nearly five months before, he was taken down on the 20th day of August, 1906,and was moved to his father's house at Brussells, where everything was done for him that anxious hearts and willing hands could do, but to no purpose, being in the clutches of that dread disease consumption. He gradually grew weaker from day to day till on the 21st of January, 1907, about 12 o'clock he died; passed away smiling.

He left a loving wife and babe, father, two sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. But they weep not as those who have no hope, but look forward to another meeting in a better land. His funeral was preached by Rev. Akers on the 23rd of January at Asberry ( Asbury j.g ) chapel, after which his body was laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. Six of his cousins acted as pall bearer: Azail, Bayles, Howard, Wesey, and L. J. HARRELL and Albert WATSON, in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends. May his ashes rest in peace till the great resurrection day, and may the good Lord keep and bless his dear wife and babe with his aged father and all the bereaved ones as none other can do, is the prayer of a friend. -E.
