Obituary for Elmer Bernhard Gronefeld (1909-1983)
Troy Free Press, Troy, Lincoln County, MO.
From the clippings of John E. Meyer.

Elmer Bernhard GRONEFELD was born June 14, 1909 in St. Charles, Missouri. The parents who gave him life and nurtured him during the years of growing to manhood were Edwin and Ella DIEKAMP GRONEFELD. Elmer was baptized July 4, 1909 in St. Johns United Church of Christ in St. Charles.

He spent the first 14 years of his life north of St. Charles until his parents moved later to his grandfather’s farm south of St. Charles. April 23, 1933 was a day which Elmer was very happy. For that was the day he and Mabel HOFFMAN entered into the holy relationship of marriage.

Elmer and Mabel then lived 17 years on a farm near Weldon Springs and the past 33 years on a farm near Moscow Mills. The 23rd of this month would have marked Elmer and Mabel’s 50th wedding anniversary.

Elmer spent his entire life as a farmer and retired in 1980. The past year Elmer had been in very poor health and on April 4, 1983, he died at the Mar-Le Nursing Home at the age of 73 years 9 months and 21 days.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; one brother, Martin and his wife, Maxine of Licking; three sisters: Edna HEMSATH and her husband, Otto of Middletown, Adele RENKIN and her husband, Ralph of St. Charles, and Ellen HORSTMEIER of St. Charles; one uncle, Emil DIEKAMP of St. Charles; his wife’s sister, Ruby HOLLRAH and her husband, Kermit of St. Charles; and his wife’s three brothers: Orville and his wife, Evelyn, Marvin and his wife, Jane, Kenneth and his wife, Doris, all of Weldon Springs.

He also leaves nieces, nephews, and many friends to mourn his passing. Elmer will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held April 6 at the T.E. Pitman Funeral Home, Wentzville, with Pastor Allen Minor officiating. Burial was in the St. Charles Memorial Gardens at St. Charles. Casket bearers were Leonard HEMSATH, Richard RENKIN, Dallas GRONEFELD, Miller BRAUNGARDT, Gary BRAUNGARDT and Tom HENKE.
