Another old and well known citizen has gone to his reward. Dr. Joseph Carter GOODRICH, aged 74 years, 7 months and 15 days, died at his home in Wentzville, on the 29th day of November. Dr. GOODRICH was born in Amherst County, Virginia, on April 14, 1825. In 1830 he came west with his parents and they settled in Calaway county. He enlisted in 1847 in the Mexican War and served for a year or more.
He has been a resident of Wentzville since 1859. He was twice married. In 1868 he married Miss Ann S. FRANS, daughter of William FRANS, and to this union fve children were born. His first wife died in 1875. In 1879 Dr. GOODRICH married Mrs. Julia W. WOMACK of Wentzville.
The funeral took place on the afternoon of Thanksgiving day at 2 o'clock and the remains were buried in the Linn Cemetery. Dr. GOODRICH took considerable interest in politics and was respected by all. He was a man of energy and in his long life had built up a fine character. -St. Charles Cosmos
[Transcriber's Note:
I feel he lived in Lin Co. at one time. There have been queries about the Goodriches of Lin. Co. There were Goodrichs in Foley, Mo. as well. The Wommacks lived in Lin. Co. This one is spelled with 1 M. I heard a story from Judge W. Wommack as to why a brother of Warren's ancestor had only 1 M. The brother who fought for the South dropped one of the Ms while the brother's who fought for the North kept the 2 Ms.( jg.)]
