GILMORE - At his home near Davis, Lincoln County, Saturday night, Dec. 24, 1898, at 12 o'clock, John T. GILMORE, aged 68 years, 4 months and 23 days. Death was due to Bright's desease of the kidneys and other complications.

John T. GILMORE was the son of James and Elizabeth (HAMMONDS) GILMORE, the former of whom came from his native state of Kentucky to Missouri after reaching man's estate, and was married in Missouri. Soon after this he located on the farm where Jno. T. GILMORE, his son, was born, lived and died. The elder GILMORE lived to be thirty-one years of age. His widow afterwards married Richard WOMMACK.

John T. GILMORE was born Aug. 1, 1830. At the age of nineteen he began to work for himself at $8 a month, and some time after was spent chopping and rafting logs down the Mississippi River to St. Louis. By industry and economy he eventually became owner of 460 acres of land and was known to be comfortably fixed. In 1851, he married Elizabeth GILILLAND, who died in 1879, leaving eight children. In 1871 chose for his second wife Elizabeth GILILLAND, a niece of his first wife. This wife's death occurred in 1873; she left one child. In 1874 he married the wife who survives him, whose maiden name was Mattie MOORE. He leaves five children by this marriage.

Judge GILMORE was always a Democrat in politics. With the exception of two years he has been judge of the first district of Lincoln county since 1884. He was an economical, ridgidly honest public servant - as high tribute as can be paid any man. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clck by Elder J. S. Eames at the late home of deceased, after which remains were laid to rest in Old Sulphur Lick burying grounds. The pall bearers were Judge W. W. Reid, Fayette Ives, Cyrus Finley, Lloyd Robey, Judge J.E.Mosley, T. O. Nuckles Capt. Wm. Coose and Samuel Doughterty.
