OBITUARY OF WALKER FINLEY (1848-1907)
Uncited original clippings from the family archives of Frances Mitchell Houston, Troy, MO, 2012
Transcribed and Submitted by Pauline Houston Steeves
Mr Walker Finley of Okete, Mo. departed this life May 30th 1907, at 2 a. m. He was born Feb. 17th 1848; was reared, lived and died at the present family home. He was married Aug. 21st 1876 to Miss Mary Ann Finley of Okete MO.
From this union are six living, viz: Cyrus, Neva, Tena, Charley, Mattie and Georgia. All of these ministered to the father in his affliction and still remain to help to cheer the heart of mother and bear the burdens of the home. Mr. Finley connected with the Mt. Zion A. R. P. church some years ago and has since been a staunch friend and supporter of the church.
His affliction extended through several years. Different cancer specialists were visited, a Kansas City doctor treated him for more than a year, and after his return home, the family physician dressed his face twice a week until his death. Doubtless medical skill and loving hands did what they could for him, yet God alone could end his sufferings in peace.
