Obituary for Rosalie Harper Edwards (1878-1923)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin Jablonski, 1998.

ROSALIE HARPER EDWARDS was a daughter of Allen S. And Nancy J. HARPER, was born on the old home place three miles south of Hawk Point, June 3, 1878. Died at her home in Troy March 6, 1923, being 44 years, 9 months and 3 days of age. She grew up to young womanhood at the old home place and in the fall of 1901 she moved to Troy with her parents where she has made her home most of the time since, except for a few years which were spent in Chicago. Her mother died in Troy in the spring of 1903. She then kept house for her father until 1910 when she was married to Harry G. EDWARDS. For a few years she made her home in Kansas City and Chicago. To this union one son was born, Clarence, who is left without a mother in her death. (Her husband, who was in the employ of a large company in Chicago, was sent out on a business trip a few months ago and never returned. He is supposed to have had money with him which was a mistake, and the company as well as the family are sure that he met with foul play and is dead. Mrs. EDWARDS hoped against hope that he was not dead.)

Besides little Clarence she leaves three brothers, C. A. And . E. HARPER of Hawk Point, J. W. HARPER, of Kansas City; three sisters, Mrs. W. S. MOORE, of Troy, Mrs. James KELLY of Hawk Point and Mrs. Ida RITCHEY of Louisville, Ky.; Two aunts Mrs. Geo. HILER, or Troy and Mrs. Joe CROUCH of Hawk Point. She joined the Hawk Point Christian church when very young and her life had been one of devotion to her God and her family. She was ever mindful of the welfare of others and carried a beam of happiness wherever she went. She always saw the bright side of life and the good in all with whom she came in contact. Her greeting to one and all was a smile. In her death little Clarence has lost the love and care of a good mother and we brothers and sisters the love of a devoted sister. She is the first of the family circle of seven children to go home. May we all be as well prepared to meet the summons as she was.
