Obituary for Hannah Mariah Eads (1809-1899)

Mrs. Hannah Mariah EADS..on down the weight of years and passed into eternal rest on Thursday morning Jan.5,1899, at 9:05 at the home of her son, Theodore D. FISHER, Farmington, Mo., age 89 years and 7 days. Hannah Mariah EADS was born Dec. 29, 1809, at Lexington, Ky., and was the last survivor of twelve children born to James and Margaret WILEY EADS. Her maternal grandparents James WILEY and Miss ABERCROMBIE, were married in Ireland, and emigrated to America prior to the Revolutionary War, locating first in Pennsylvania, and thence removed to what was then known as McConnel's Station, Ky. James WILEY was subsequently killed by Indians while acting as guide to a troop of soldiers.

On the 10th of November,1836, Shelbyville, Ky., she was married to Horiatio Appoen FISHER, a native of Maryland and son of Thomas A. and Hannah APPOEN FISHER who were reared and married in Philadelphia . In 1842 they removed from Kentucky to Missouri, locating at Troy, Lincoln County, where they lived until the death of her husband on the 24th of May 1857. To this union seven children were born, only two of whom, Thomas Madison and Theodore Decanter, grew to man's estate. On the 10th of November, 1859 she was again married to Ira Thornton NELSON, a native of Virginia, who came to this state in 1836 and located at New Hope, in Lincoln County where he died in 1889, aged 92 years. Since that time she has lived with her sons-- for the last three and half years at Farmington.

Uniting with the Christian Church when a young woman, she ever remained faithful and consistent disciple of the world's Redeemer. She lived at the time and in the midst of the religious reform movement from which sprung the organization of the Christian Church of the Disciples of Christ, and had often seen and heard BARTON STONE as well as ALEXANDER CAMPBELL, the leading spirits of the movement for the observance of primitive Christianity as interpreted and expounded by them.

Her life as a wife and mother was gentle, loving and forbearing, and her heart and sympathy were ever open to the young whose presence..[rest is missing].
