Obituary for Mary Elizabeth (Dyer) Duncan  (1839-1923)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin Jablonski, 1998.

Mrs. Henry C. Duncan Gone

A large assembly of relatives, neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Brother Henry DUNCAN at 10 o’clock Friday morning, June 1, to attend the funeral services of his wife, who passed away Wednesday May 30, at the ripe of age of 84 years, 2 month and 2 days. Sister Duncan was truly one of our best women, being a faithful and loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a true Christian. She lived the humble life, giving practically all of her activities to her family and home.

Mary Elizabeth DYER (her maiden name) was born near Troy, Lincoln county, March 28, 1839. She was married to Henry C. DUNCAN January 23, 1862. Three children were born to this union - Julia, now Mrs. C. A. HOLMES; Lilla, and Wm. L., of Hawk Point. She united with the Troy Christian Church in 1904. This is the first death in this family and in her going, she leaves her aged husband, the three children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  We believe that Sister Duncan was one of God’s faithful ones and was "an heir to the promises" so clearly set out in the Savior’s teaching.

The funeral services were conducted by the writer and the interment was in Troy’s beautiful cemetery. Our sincere sympathy is extended to this good family.

"Beautiful toiler, thy work all done,
Beautiful soul into glory gone;
Beautiful life with its crown now won,
God giveth thee rest.
Rest through God’s endless, wonderful years’
At home with the blest."
M. D. Dudley
