"Lucy Ann DORSEY, was born Hardin Co. KY, Oct 16, 1843, and moved to Lincoln
county MO, with her parents in the year 1850. She was married to James SHIELDS in 1865, to
which union were born two sons, Albert and Thomas. She died March 6, 1910, leaving a
husband, two sons, five brothers and one sister, Mrs.
F.D. HARDESTY, besides a host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss.
"She was converted and united with New Salem Baptist church in 1869, under the
pastorate of Eld. Wm. H. LUCK, and lived a humble, devout Christian the remainder of her
life, in the greatest of simplicity of faith and self-sacrifice, ever ready to do for
others without a murmer, and asking nothing for herself. Her mind and heart were
interested in the true teaching of the gospel that leads us to exclaim: 'Whatsoever things
are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are
lovely, whatsoever things are of good report: If there be any virtue and if there be any
praise, think on these things.'
"Our loss is her eternal gain. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. 'Blessed are
the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth. Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest
from their labors: and their work do follow them.' --K."
