Mrs. Sarah DIGGS died of Consumption near New Hope April 24, 1889 age 44 years. Deceased was daughter of the late Dr. KING. She was born and raised near New Hope and after becoming grown her father moved with his family, near here, where she married Brady BRISCOE, who died about 16 years ago and later she became the wife of Benjamin DIGGS, and afterwards removed with him and her two children, by her former husband, to New Hope where she lived ever since.
On the 25th the remains were taken to the old James farm near Foley for interment, in the graveyard, where a large concourse of friends and relatives met to pay their respects to the last remains of this highly esteemed lady. Mrs. DIGGS was a kind Christian woman, a faithful wife, a most devoted mother, a warm and steadfast friend and possessed a most exemplary character. For three months or more she had been a patient sufferer of that dreadful disease consumption, and although her family was long expecting the end, it was with great sorrow that they placed their much loved mother .....rest is missing.
[Transcriber's notes:
Mr.& Mrs. Loyd Groshong and Mr.& Mrs. Alvin P. Groshong copied the census on this cemetery Oct. 5,1975 but we found no Diggs or Briscoes buried here. There were James, Nehls Stonebrakers and Hitons buried there. I do feel there are many more buried in the cemetery as the farm was later owned by George Washington & America Hilton, Racker, Stonebraker, who are supposed to also be buried there as well. I have a listing of some of the Hilton family who are buried and there are no stones now. I was told that some of the stones were rolled down the bluff sevral years ago. America's & G.W.Stonebrakers were among them. The Cemetery is located across from the old Stephen and Zeorilda ( Overall) Hilton Homeplace north of Foley on east Hwy. 79. Oliver's Bluff Rd. leads to it. jg.]
