CHILD FATALLY BURNED

Four Year Old Son of J. D. Damron

Succumbed to Injuries Received

While Playing With Fire

Paul H. Damron, the four-year old twin, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Damron, near New Hope, was fatally burned last Thursday afternoon and died about midnight from injuries thus sustained.  The little fellow was in a room with an older brother when his clothing accidentally caught fire from an old fashioned fireplace.  He ran out of the house toward the barn, where his mother had gone to gather eggs.  A sister, hearing his screams, seized him and tried to tear the clothing from him, but by the time he was divested of his garments his body was so badly burned that death was inevitable.

Drs. Powell and Taylor of Elsberry, were summoned, but all efforts to save the little fellow’s life were futile and he died about eight hours after being burned.

Paul and his twin sister were born June 22, 1905, and liked only a few months being four years of age.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.D. Neale at Oak Ridge Friday afternoon and his little body was laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.  The sympathy of the entire community is for the family, called upon to give up a loved one, so suddenly and in such a sad way.

Contributor’s note:  Paul Damron was the son of James Dawson Damron and Ida Ellen (Davis) Damron and was the twin brother of Pauline (Damron) Barnes.  Paul was born on June 22, 1905 and died on April 9, 1909.
