Passing of Noah M. Damron.

Noah Damron, a brief notice of whose death appeared in these columns last week, was buried Friday in Old Prairieville cemetery following funeral services in Prairieville church conducted by Rev. R. T. Campbell, of Bowling Green.

He was born, reared and spent his entire life in the community in which he died, some eight or nine miles northwest of Elsberry.  He was hospitable and neighborly, possessed a sunny disposition and was held in high esteem by all.

Noah Marion Damron, the first child of Robert Leland and Nancy Robinson Damron, was born October 29, 1852, and died November 7, 1934, at the age of 82 years and 9 days.  His marriage to Miss Laura Davis occurred on October 1, 1885.  This happy union was short lived, as the young wife died on the following July 10.  The child of this union died in early infancy.

Six years later he was united in marriage with Adeline Miller Meriwether.  Five sons were born of this union, the eldest dying in infancy.  The surviving sons are Meriwether, Henry W., Robert Leland and David Crank.  Mr. and Mrs. Damron also reared and adopted Nellie Lemery, who was taken into their home when a tiny child and was regarded as a member of the family until she grew to womanhood, married and became mistress of her own home. The mother of his children died on October 29, 1929.

Mr. Damron continued his residence at the old home.  Leland and wife lived with him, confronting him as best they could until the end.

“Uncle Noah, “as he was familiarly known, never held membership in any church, but was a firm believer in the Creator of all things.  He endeavored to live from day to day in accordance with the teachings of the Great Book.

He is survived by four sons, above mentioned, one sister, Mrs. Bernard Wagner, of near Apex; four brothers, J. D. Damron, of New Hope; Ed, of Hannibal; A. E. and C. G., of near Elsberry; seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other kindred and a host of friends.
