Death of Mrs. A. E. Damron.
Friends and relatives of Mrs. A. E. Damron, of the White Swan neighborhood, were shocked Saturday morning to learn of her sudden death, which occurred a few minutes after telling her husband she felt better than at any time in several weeks. Death is supposed to have resulted from an acute attack of asthma.
Mrs. Damron had been confined to her bed with pneumonia for several weeks. She was pronounced cured of the disease by the attending physician and it was thought within a few days she would be able to leave her bed. Shortly before 7 o’clock Saturday morning her sister, Mrs. A. B. Rogers, gave her a dose of medicine. Desiring to thoroughly cleanse the room of impure air, the windows were raised. This probably hastened the end as Mrs. Damron seemed to choke and expired without uttering a word, although her husband was at her side.
Mrs. Damron’s maiden name was Laura Jane Robinson, being a daughter of the late Marion Robinson, and was born February 19, 1870. At the age of seventeen years she was married to Mr. Damron. Five children were born of this union as follows: Arthur, Robert, Mrs. Chas. Simmons, David and Reavis, all of whom are living except the latter, who died in childhood.
Mrs. Damron was a devout member of Smith Chapel Methodist church, a devoted wife and mother, an excellent neighbor and a splendid woman. Funeral services were held from the Oak Ridge church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. N. Giddens, her pastor, and the interment took place in the cemetery near the church. Notwithstanding the bad roads, a large crowd attended the funeral and burial.
In addition to a husband and four children, Mrs. Damron is survived by many relatives and friends.
