Obituary of James Nicholas Damron (1874-1950)
Dr. J. N. Damron, Prominent Elsberry Dentist, Dies At 75
Dr. James N. Damron, Elsberry Dentist for almost 50 years, passed away Saturday Dec. 2 in the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. He had been a patient there for about two weeks. Dr. Damron would have been 76 years old the last day of December had he lived.
Dr. Damron graduated from the Elsberry High School and from the Keokuk Dental College at Keoku, Ia. At that time he established his practice here in Elsberry and continued with his profession until his recent illness. He would have practiced 50 years in April of 1951.
Dr. Damron was born near Whiteside the son of Chas. W. and Sejus G. nee Crank, Damron in 1874. In 1907 he was married to Miss Melissa Metts who preceded him in death in 1940. Two brothers also preceded him in death, Dr. O. H. and W. D. Damron.
Surviving are his mother, who is 98; three children, Dr. Edward O. Damron of Elsberry, Lloyd M. Damron of Memphis, Tenn.; and Mrs. Barclay Cortelyou of Troy; six grandchildren; one brother, G. V. Damron of Kansas City, Mo. and one sister Mrs. Mollie Sue Bibb of Webster Groves and two uncles.
He was a member of the Masonic Order for 43 years and was a past most Worshipful Master in the New Hope Lodge of which he was a member.
Services were held from the Ricks Funeral Home Tuesday Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.; by Rev. C. D. ONeill, Baptist Minister, assisted by Rev. O. O. Diven, Methodist Minister.
Graveside services were held by the New Hope Masonic Lodge. Interment was in the Elsberry City Cemetery.
