IN MEMORIUM

Leah J. CRUME was born February 23, 1824, and died February 21, 1898. Seventy-four years ago on a farm near Baltimore, Md. in the home of John and Nellie DRYDEN, a little girl baby first opened her eyes. Two weeks ago a woman, surrounded by loving relatives and friends, full of years, her life well rounded with noble work, bravely and modestly done, closed those same eyes on this life forever. Well could she say with the sainted apostle, "I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course."

John DRYDEN moved his family to Missouri when his daughter Leah was 12 years old, in 1836, and settled on a farm near Brussell in Lincoln county. To this home came Jonathan W.CRUME to claim Leah for his 18-year old bride, in 1842. Their wedded life was passed in peace and harmony. They proved a farm joining her father's. To them were born 8 children, 5 sons and 3 daughters. Two sons died in childhood. Their oldest child, Mrs. S.A.HARRELL, lives near Brussells, Mo. She has 4 children. The oldest son, Littleton T. CRUME, resides in Mendocino county, Cal. The second daughter, Mrs. Ella CHENOWERTH, lives in Fayette, Mo. She has 4 children. The second son, J.S. CRUME, resides in Elsberry. He had 6 children. The third son, J.W. CRUME, living near Argentville, Mo., has 6 children. The youngest daughter, Mrs. J.W.ALEXANDER, resides in St Louis and has one child. So that Mrs. Leah CRUME leaves 6 children, 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren to mourn her loss.

She was a faithful, consistent Christian. She was a member from childhood, and held the membership at Asberry Chapel  when she died. Mrs. Leah CRUME fell on the ice during a dangerous sleet of last December and the shock exaggerated a chronic maladay from which she suffered, and of which she died. She was a patient, heroic sufferer. To sit at the bedside of a Christian and watch the dignified, calm awaiting the lifting of the curtain that divides time and eternity, is to feel that "It is not all of life to live, or all of death to die." To read the 14th chapter of St. John to the patient, and to meet the calm, steady, trustful look, seeming to say, "Yes, I know it all, and have often and often rested my heart there;" is to feel that the "Soul has prepared to meet it's God,"-------------------------------------- She was laid to rest in the family lot at Asbhury Church .--------------------A Friend
