From the papers of Mary Omahundro Hutt Walker

MRS. LAURA MINA CHAPPELL wife of G. H. CHAPPELL, died Monday evening at 6:35 at her home in St. Louis, of consumption, after an illness of over eight months. The remains were brought to Troy Tuesday evening and conveyed to the home of Mrs. Jane S. HEADY, mother of the deceased, and Wednesday afternoon brief funeral services were held at this place. Elder Chas. KING assisted by Rev. C. W. LATHAM conducted the services after which the remains were tenderly taken to the city cemetery for interment. The pall bearers were Judge B. W. WHEELER, S. B. AVERY, E. B. WOOLFOLK,  J. L. SHAFER, R. L. SUTTON and James H. ANDERSON. Mrs. CHAPPELL was a daughter of J. M. and Jane S. HEADY. At the time of her death she was 45 years, 2 months and 19 days old.

She was the second of seven children, four of whom survive her, two brothers and two sisters. In October, 1877, she was married to George Hawley CHAPPELL, at the home of her parents, near Troy. Some few years ago they removed to St. Louis. Mrs. CHAPPELL was the mother of six children, only three of whom are living. Her last illness, which was marked with all the characteristics of the merciless disease, consumption, was borne with hopeful fortitude. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her beloved family and immediate relatives. Although her death had been expected for several weeks, it came all too soon. To the sorrowing relatives we join friends in extending sincerest sympathy.

I take it George J Chappel was George & Laura's son, however I don't recall my mother speaking of Cousin Thurza's in-laws. On the back on this obit. an article speaks of   "No More Small pox in Lincoln Co." except for one case ....The article is 1/2 gone but will print it. I wonder if these children died of Smallpox?? -j.g.]

NO MORE SMALLPOX

From present indications the smallpox scare will shortly be a thing of the past in Lincoln county. But one case, and one in recovery, remains in the pest house in eastern part of the county. The victim is one of the negroes exposed to Robinson. Three other negroes are in detention house, but as no symptoms have developed with them the physicians believe that they will escape the disease. The physicians who have been in touch with the disease are quite satisfied with the present condition of things and believe that the disease will spread no farther. The officials having control of the matter are to be commended over the outcome as their precautions seem to have been throughly effective. Health Official JAMES LINAHAN came home the latter part of last week from the eastern part of the county, Drs. AVERY, McKAY the other members of the... [rest is missing -j.g.]
