Obituary for Darline Emily Bueneman (1917-1989)
Troy Free Press, Troy, Lincoln County, MO.
From the clippings of John E. Meyer.
Darline Emily BUENEMAN was born July 3, 1917 at Troy, Missouri, the sixth of eight children born to Thomas and Maggie GERDEMAN BUENEMAN.
As a child she was baptized a member of the Friedes Evangelical Church at Moscow Mills. She received her elementary education at the Sugar Grove School in rural Lincoln County, and was graduated from Buchanan High School in Troy in 1935.
Following graduation, she found employment with Maupin MITCHELL, then collector of Lincoln County, and later with Racca LUCK, Lincoln County Assessor. Her last employment at the Lincoln County Courthouse was with the draft board in the early days of World War II.
In the early 1940s she assisted her brother, Elihu BUENEMAN, in the operation of his Wright City, Mo. Hardware Store. She remained with her brother until the early 1950s, when she moved to St. Louis to accept a position with the Vincel Pontiac Corporation. Her desire for self-improvement led her to attend courses at the Hickey School of Business after her working hours, and she graduated from that institution after two years of night school.
Her abilities, industry, temperament and zeal led to steady advancement in her work, and she retired in the late 1970s as head of accounting for Vincel Pontiac.
Her great capabilities at her work were equaled only by her devotion to her family. Until the death of her parents she returned to Troy each weekend to assist in their care; it was a labor of love.
Following her retirement she returned to Troy, but as time progressed she made ever more frequent trips to Brandon, Mississippi to spend time with her sister, Mabel SCHOENECK.
Darline became chronically ill some ten years ago, and she begun to spend more and more time in Brandon. At the time of her death, Brandon had become a second home to her but in her heart, Lincoln County was always home.
A woman possessed of great love, she was devoted to her brothers and sisters. She was especially devoted to her nieces and nephews, and to her great-nieces and great-nephews.
She enjoyed life, and took pleasure in its elemental pleasures. She enjoyed reading, and loved to garden. Having come from a large family she had learned the value of enjoying people for themselves, and took great pleasure in her many friends.
Preceding her in death were her brothers, Elihu and Julius.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Ora BUENEMAN and his wife, Helen of Troy; Alva DOWELL of Bowling Green; Walter and his wife, Eva of Moscow Mills; Mabel SCHOENECK of Brandon, Miss. And Marvin and his wife, Mildred of Troy and by two sisters-in-law, Garnette BUENEMAN of Troy and Mary BUENEMAN of Couer DArlene, Idaho. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Hers was a life of honesty, of industry and of love; she could have asked for no more.
Funeral services for Miss BUENEMAN were held at 10:30 Sunday morning at the Troy Chapel, Kemper-Marsh Funeral Homes with the Rev. John Riggs, pastor of Friedens United Church of Christ officiating. Interment was in the Troy City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were: Irving BUENEMAN, Briggs CRAGEN, Norman ENGELAGE, Alvin WORTMAN, Richard L. DOWELL, Kenneth BUENEMAN and Harry J. SCHOENECK.
