Obituary for Louella Bowen (1892-1897)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin
Jablonski, 1998.
Died - Nov. 27, 1897, Louella BOWEN, little daughter of G. C. And Lizzie BOWEN.
Little Flossie, as they called her, had been sick only a short time and so improved was her condition she was thought to be out of all danger. She was allowed the day before she died to leave her bed to play with her little sisters, so glad to have her join them, but at two oclock the next morning she awoke her mother and asked for something to eat, and before it could be prepared God sent His angel and took her unto Himself.
Flossie was born on the 29th day of Feb. 1892, and although she had not many birthdays, she would soon have been six years old. She was the baby and the pet of all the family. Alas! That those we love so dearly are soonest to be taken from us. But she was taken in her innocence, unstained by actual transgression; and by the power of Him who is the resurrection and the life, and who said of little children, "Suffer them to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven," we feel assured in our hearts that she is now basking in the sunlight of Gods glorious presence. Home seems vacant and hearts are heavy, but childish prattle is turned to cherubic praise and by loving resignation to the will of Him "who doeth all things well," God is glorified in all. After a short service at the home she was borne to the Elmore burying ground where by the side of a little brother she was laid to peaceful sleep. -- O. A. GORDON
