Obituary for John Fredrick Borgelt
(1873-1975)John Fredrick BORGELT departed this life April 22, 1975 at the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, at the age of 101 years, 7 months, and 17 days.
Mr. BORGELT was born in Wentzville, Missouri, September 5, 1873, the son of the late William and Catherine BORGELT.
On August 19, 1897, he was married to Olive Lorene CALLOWAY and to this union, four children were born: Antwine, Catherine (Mrs. Lindley LaRUE), Myrtle (Mrs. Earl JONES, and Albert.
Mr. BORGELT was a retired blacksmith, living and working in Moscow Mills most of his adult life. He was loved and watched over by all his friends in Moscow. After celebrating his 100th birthday in his own home, he went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Howard REDDICK, and then to the Sunset Nursing Home in Troy. Mr. BORGELTs jolly personality made him a pleasure to all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his passing, three children: Catherine and her husband, Lindley LaRUE, of Troy, Myrtle JONES, of Moscow Mills, and Albert of Hannibal; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren,; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Mr. BORGELT was a member of the Moscow Mills United Methodist Church. He was a musician, and played his violin everyday until his final illness. He had an exceptional memory and often recalled interesting stories of the area where he spent his life.
Funeral services for Mr. BORGELT were from Kemper Marsh Funeral Home, Troy, to the United Methodist Church at Moscow Mills, the Rev. Lester Zacher officiating.
A great-granddaughter, Lori LaRUE, was the pianist and another great-granddaughter, Wanda WEGENER, was the soloist. The pallbearers were Kenneth LaRUE, Arlie WEGENER, Bob RINKE, Bill DUNARD, Glenn WEGENER and Rossell EALUM. Interment was in Thornhill Cemetery.
