Obituary of Sarah Ellen (Rogers) Blackwell (1904-1982)

ELSBERRYServices for Sarah Ellen Blackwell, 78, of Eolia, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Silex with the Rev. Sammy Lorton officiating. Burial will be in Mill Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Blackwell died at 9 p.m. Thursday in her home.
She was born Feb. 6, 1904, in Welch, Okla., to Joseph Wesley and Bertha Ellen Damron Rodgers. She was married on June 23, 1924, in St. Charles to Dana Howard Blackwell, and he died on July 4, 1973.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Laura B. Waddell of New London; four sons, Dana Preston Blackwell, Donald Jean Blackwell and Milford Leroy Blackwell, all of Eolia, and Cletus Wayne Blackwell of Winfield; two brothers, Raymond Rodgers of St. Charles and Warren Rodgers of OFallon; four sisters, Mrs. Beulah Vierling of Stover, Mrs. Berniece Waldvogel of St. Charles, Mrs. Josephine Allen of Amarillo, Texas, and Frances of St. Charles; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a lifelong resident of the Eolia area and attended Briscoe Holiness Church in Silex.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
