RILEY LaFAYETTE BIRKHEAD
The subject of this sketch was born near Troy, Nov. 10, 1852, and was the oldest son of John M and Mary Jane BIRKHEAD. He died at his home 1 mile east of Troy, July 25, 1921, after an illness from heart disease of several months duration, being at the time 68 years, 8 months and 15 days. He was married to Mary C. WILSON, Nov. 30, 1880 and to this union 1 child was born, Mary Belle, wife of Albert W. HOWELL, cashier of the People's Bank of Troy.
Mr. BIRKHEAD was elected treasurer of Lincoln Co. in 1892 and served with honor to himself and credit to his county and party for 2 terms. All of his life was spent in a few miles of this place of his birth, except the year of 1906 spent in Cal.. His funeral was preached at his home Tuesday afternoon, July 26, by Rev. O.A.Gordon. In the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, gathered to pay the last tribute of love and repect to one of the best known. Interrment was in Troy City Cem.
