Obituary for Fred Henry Bergfeld (1914-1994)

Fred Henry BERGFELD was born on April 10, 1914, in Moscow Mills, Mo., to Henry Conrad and Louise LUDWIG BERGFELD, along with a twin sister, Esther. He passed away on Oct. 26, 1994, at the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.

He was baptized by the Rev. R.C. Luecke on Jan. 21, 1915, and was confirmed on May 27, 1928, by Rev. H. Henning in the Evangelical faith. He was a member of the Friedens United Church of Christ, Moscow Mills, later transferring his membership to the Zion United Church of Christ, Troy, Mo., in 1973.

Fred was united in marriage to Lucille BUENEMAN of Troy on July 2, 1942, by the Rev. John L. SCHMIDT, an uncle of the bride, and they established their first home in Moscow Mills where he had employment. He was inducted into the Army Air Force in November 1942, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant as Chief Aircraft Dispatcher in Topeka, Kan. He was discharged in 1946.

Upon his return home, he built a new home in Troy for his family and he resumed the carpentry trade for years while he helped to build many new homes in the area.

Fred and Lucille became the parents of two children, Carol Ann and Alan Fred.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Edwin.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Troy; his two children, Dr. Carol B. MILLS, of Baltimore, Md. and Alan Fred BERGFELD, of Wichita, Kan.; two very special grandsons, Ridgeway N. MILLS and James Conrad BERGFELD; his sister; Esther HORNER and her husband, Clay HORNER, of Wichita, Kan.; his sister-in-law, Irene BERGFELD, of Troy and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Zion United Church of Christ, Troy, on Oct. 28. Pastor Don Hartman officiated. Interment was in the Anderson Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Pallbearers were Marvin BUENEMAN, Joe DOLDE, Kermet WIEMAN, Fred WEHMEIER, Martin DUNARD and Arthur SCHEMMER.
