Obituaries for Dazerene (Elmore) Barley (d1906)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin
Jablonski, 1998.
(Contributor's Note: The collection contained two obituaries with conflicting dates of death for this individual.)
First Clipping:
Mrs. Dazerene BARLEY died at her home near Hawk Point November 6, 1906, age 31 years, 10 months and 2 days. She was a daughter of T. L. ELMORE of that vicinity.
On August 19, 1894, she was married to W. O. BARLEY and to them were born six children, who are left, with the husband and four step-children, to mourn her loss. The taking away of this mother from her six little children is one of the saddest things we have to meet with in this life.
Sister BARLEY was loved by her step-children though she had been their own mother. She will be sadly missed by her family and the people of the community in which she lived and also by the members of the Primitive Baptist church of which she was a worthy member for seven years before her death. She also leaves an aged father and mother and brothers and sisters to mourn for her.
Elder S. A. ELKINS, of Montgomery City, preached a funeral discourse at the home to a large congregation of sorrowing relatives and neighbors.
Second clipping with conflicting date of death:
Mrs. W. O. BARLEY died at her home in the Hawk Point vicinity on the afternoon of November 5. She had been sick for about a week and on Saturday she was stricken with paralysis. She left a husband with six children. She was an excellent lady and her death is deeply regretted by her friends and neighbors.
Note regarding clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection": Mattie Davis Martin (1875-1943) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO. She collected a large file of obituary clippings of Lincoln County residents' deaths. The majority of the clippings were without citation, and kept stored in an old purse.
