Mrs. Maltilda ABBOTT

The funeral services of the above were held in the Troy Christian Church on Friday, July 4, and were conducted by the writer, assisted by Elders Frazier and Hobbs. The deceased lady was a resident of Lincoln County, removing from St. Louis with her husband, James ABBOTT, of Hawk Point, over thirty years ago. Mrs. ABBOTT was born in Blackburn England, July 18, 1828,and was married in that city to her departed late husband, March 8, 1849.

They came to America in 1864, located first in Mason County, Illinois. At the old homestead near Hawk Point her husband died Jan. 3, 1896, and was buried at Troy, where his beloved wife lies by his side. From early life she was deeply religious and was a consistant member of the Congregation Church. About twenty years ago, however, she attached herself to the Christian Church at Hawk Point, of which their son T. A. ABBOTT, was pastor. Eleven children were born to them eight of whom are still living.

Sister ABBOTT was taken sick fourteen weeks ago, from which she never recovered, and the end came peacefully on Wednesday evening, July 2. On Sunday previous to her death she called her children around her and bade them all goodbye exhorting them to love each other and their God. Thus passed away a "mother of Israel." No eulogies are needed in her case; her Godly life spoke loudly while she lived, and the odor of her piety still lingers in the memories of her many friends in Lincoln County. G. F. Assiter

I could be wrong but I an thinking this would be the late Mrs. Obie (Susan Matilda Allen ) Meadow's grandparents on the maternal side. All her people were very involved with the early Christian Churches in Lincoln Co. The Corinth Christian Church Foley, Mo. where my son preaches, was actually started as early as 1822 in the home of Francis Riffle who was md. to Susanah McHugh who was a sister to the 3 McHugh boys who were massacred by Black Hawk's warriors. Their daughter, Luvina Riffle daughter md. David Allen, parents of James Allen who md. Elizabeth Abbott and their daughter was Susie Allen. Allens were some of the first settlers in Lincoln Co. and my early Corinth Records have Allens very much involved in the leadership of the Church. ]
