DAVID WILSON CEMETERY
Inventory, details and photo identification by Emily Wilson, 2005.
The David Wilson Cemetery is in a patch of trees and thick undergrowth in the middle of a field about a mile and a half north of where County Roads E and B meet and 1 mile through the field east of Highway 61. This is private property. The land was originally purchased by David Wilson, Sr. in 1820. Exact location: 39º 10 01.21" N, 90º 58 11.89" W (39.166694º, -90.971689º)
All individuals in this cemetery are direct descendants, or spouses of descendants, of David Wilson and Nancy Elder, immigrants from Northern Ireland to Missouri by way of Fairfield District, South Carolina. (One exception is William H. Long, who is listed in the "Gone but not Forgotten" inventory, but whose relationship to the Wilsons is not determined.) David Wilson died in 1821, only 2-3 years after coming to Lincoln County, making his memorial one of the oldest identifiable graves in the County. His widow, Nancy, continued to farm and live on this land for 46 years after her husbands death.
Many, many thanks to Karen Buck for taking these photographs after I shattered my toe and broke my wrist trying to get there. - EW
