Marriage Notice for Wm. Sidney Penn and Ethlyn Brown
Believed to be from a Troy or Lincoln County newspaper.
From the collection of Mary Omahundro Hutt Walker.
According to announcement in last week's issue, Miss Ethlyn BROWN, daugher of Mr. & Mrs. George S. BROWN, was united in marriage to Mr. Wm Sidney PENN, of Troy, at Highland Prairie church at 8 o'clock, the evening of March 17. At the appointed hour Miss Grace Aydelotte, of Troy, rendered the wedding march; the groom, accompaned by his best man, Mr. Sid Martin, marched up the aisle while the bride, leaning on her father's arm, came up the east aisle, Miss Ida Palmer, the maid of honor, leading the way. At the chancel they were met by Eld. O.J.Cary, who pronounced the ceremony. The bride was arrayed in white mousseline de soie, enveloped with bridal veil, draped with orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of Lillies of the Valley; the maid of honor was gowned white Persianlawn [sic]. The bride never looked more beautiful; she has grown to womanhood in our midst, acting as organist in the church and serving in various capacities in Sunday school and church; she will therefore, be greatly missed by us. She is taking care of her father's house for a few weeks in the absence of her mother, who is at Eureka Springs for her health, after which the happy couple will make their home on the farm recently bought by Mr. PENN near Troy. We extend hearty congratulations and good wishes.
[Transcriber's note:
# 2. article almost identical states " The ceremony was witnessed by a large number of friends of the bride and groom, many of them being from Troy. After the ceremony the newly wedded couple were accompanied to the home of the bride's parents where they enjoyed the wedding supper. Mrs. Dolly PENN, the mother of the groom, tendered them a reception Tuesday evening which was attended by a large number of their friends."
