Personal Property Deed of Sale - William Knowlton to Robert Jameson (1840)

Know all men by these presents that I,  William Knowlton of the County  of Lincoln and State of Missouri for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars, to me in hand paid by Robert Jameson of the County and State aforesaid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, and sold, and do by these presents grant, bargain and sell unto him, the said Robert Jameson, his heirs and assigns forever the following described personal property, to wit, one roan mare, one yearling colt, four beds, bedsteads and bedding, one press, one dining table, one stand, one plough, two sets of plough gear, three pots, two ovens and lids, two skillets and lids, two tea kettles, and all the cupboard ware of which I am now possessed, all of which property is now in my possession, and I do for myself my heirs, executors and administrators covenant and agree with him the said Robert Jameson, his heirs and that I do and will warrant and forever defend the title to the above granted property unto him the said Robert Jameson, his heirs and assigns against all lawful claims whatsoever -- Conditioned nevertheless, and these presents are upon this express condition, that whereas the said Robert Jameson is bound as security for me in a bond to the County of Lincoln aforesaid for the sum of eighty two dollars and fifty cents, payable one year after date, and dated the 9th day of February, 1839, and drawing ten percent interest from date until paid - Now should I the said William Knowlton pay the said bond to the County of Lincoln aforesaid, or cause the same to be paid and have the said Robert Jameson harmless in the premises, then this Bill of Sale is to be null and void, any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding, else to be and remain in full force and virtue -- As witness my hand and seal this 31st day of August, 1840.--

County of Lincoln }      Be it remembered that on this 1st day of September, A.D. 1840, before me the undersigned a justice of the peace within and for the County aforesaid came William Knowlton, who is known to me to be the person whose name is subscribed to the within and foregoing Instrument of writing as having executed the same, and acknowledged the said instrument to be his act and deed for the purposes herein mentioned -- Taken and certified the day and year aforesaid.
