Original Purchase Property Description: NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 - the NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 & the W 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of Sec. 17, Twp 49, Rng 2E in the District of Lands Subject to Sale at Palmyra, Missouri, containing 170 acres.
This Deed Property Description: NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 & the W 1/2 of the NW 14 of Sec. 17, Twp 49, Rng 2E in the District of Lands Subject to Sale at Palmyra, Missouri, containing (unspecified) acres.
Know, all men by these presents that we Richard C. DORSEY and [__left blank__] his wife, of the County of Lincoln, in the State of Missouri have this day for and in consideration of the debt and trust hereinafter mentioned and created, and the further sum of One Dollar to them paid by Isaac VERTREES of said County and State aforesaid, granted, bargained and Sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the Said Isaac Vertrees the following described tract or parcel of land situate in the County of Lincoln in the State of Missouri, viz: The N.E. 1/4 of N.W. 1/4 & W 1/2 of N.W. 1/4 of Section 17 Township 49 of Range 2 East, [Ed. Note: acreage not specified.] To Have and To Hold, the premises hereby conveyed with all the rights privileges and appertenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said Isaac VERTREES his heirs and assigns forever. Upon this express condition, whereas the said Richard C. DORSEY on the 22d day of June 1861, made, executed and delivered to the Said Isaac VERTREES, his certain promissory note, in words and figures the following to wit:
$201.87/100 June 22d 1861
Six months after date, I promise to pay to the order of Isaac VERTREES the Sum of Two Hundred & One 87/100 dollars for value received, negotiable and payable without defalcation or discount with interest at the rate of ten per cent per annum promptly at the end of each year, it shall become a part of the principal and thereafter bear the same rate of interest as the principal.

Now if the Said Richard C. DORSEY, his executors or administrator shall pay the Sum of money specified in Said note, and all the interest that may be due thereon according to the term and effect of said note, then this conveyance shall be void, otherwise it shall remain in full force and virtue in law, and the said Isaac VERTREES or his executor or administrator may proceed to sell the property herein before described or any part thereof at public vendue to the highest bidder at Chantilly in the County of Lincoln for cash in hand, first giving Twenty days public notice of the time, terms and place of Sale and of the property to be sold, by advertisement in some newspaper printed or circulated in the County of Lincoln, or by 10 printed or written handbills stuck up in the most public places of Said County; and upon such sale and the payment of the purchase money shall execute and deliver a conveyance of the property so sold to the purchaser thereof and any statement of fact or recital by the said Isaac VERTREES in Such conveyance, in relation to the advertisement Sale receipt of the purchase money or execution of Such conveyance shall be received as Prima facie evidence of the truth thereof. And the said Isaac Vertrees shall with the proceeds of the sale aforesaid pay first the expenses of this trust, and next whatever may be in arrear and unpaid on Said note, whether of principal or interest; and the balance shall be paid over to the said Richard C. DORSEY or his legal representatives. In witess whereof we set our hands & seals this 5th day of July 1861

County of Lincoln } SS Be it remembered that Richard C. DORSEY and his wife, who are
personally known to the undersigned a Justice of the Peace within and for said County to
be the persons whose names are subscribed to the within deed as parties thereto this day
appeared before me and acknowledged that they executed and delivered the same as their
voluntarey act and deed for the uses and purposes therein contained. And the said
[__left blank__ ] being by me made acquainted with the contents of said deed,
acknowledged on an examination apart from her said husband that she executed the same and
relinqished her dower in the real estate therein mentioned freely and without compulsion
or under influence of her said husband.
