Obituary for John Rubreck (1845-1912)
No. 125 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

John RUBRECK was born Dec. 16, 1845, near Berne, Switzerland. He was married in 1873 to Miss Annie HUSTON and four children were born to their union, of whom two married daughters survive. Brother RUBRECK was baptized in infancy into the German Evangelical church and died in that faith. He was a constant and faithful attendant upon the church services and was janitor of the building.

He died May 25, 1912, after a surgical operation in St. Louis. He served three years in the civil war. As he was leaving home for the hospital he said to me: "If I do not come back alive, you will see that I have a decent burial and preach my funeral?" I said "Yes, I will do that." Then he added: "Pray for me and I will pray for you." He was not afraid of death.

The funeral was preached by the writer in the Methodist church in the presence of a large congregation of friends and his body was laid away in the WINDFIELD cemetery to await the resurrection.
