Obituary for Emma L. Richards (1899-1965)

Emma L. RICHARDS, daughter of James H. and Lou Venia COCHRAN RICHARDS, was born June
9th, 1899, in Lincoln County, Mo., near Moscow Mills, Mo. She lived in the same general
vicinity throughout her life, taking an active part in the community and county.
She was a member of the Moscow Mills Methodist Church and joined the Moscow Mills Chapter
of the Order of Eastern Star, and with that unit, transferred her membership to the Troy
Chapter. She was active in extension work and served as president of the Home Economics
Council of Lincoln County. At the time of her passing she was a member of the Lincoln
County committee.
Her passing occurred in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning, June 22,
1965. She was 66 years and 13 days of age.
Her parents and two sisters, Mary LEWIS and Verna Lou RICHARDS, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her five brothers: Hardin, Fred and Otis, of Moscow Mills, and Eugene, of
Foristell and James of Hannibal; three sisters- in-law; one niece, Mrs. Helen UTTERBACK,
of Des Moines, Ia., one nephew, Richard LEWIS, of Wentzville; other relatives and many,
many friends.
Miss RICHARDS devoted her life to making a home for her brothers, Fred and Otis. She was a
wonderful sister, and a friendly neighbor. Her family and friends will greatly miss her.
Her pastor, Rev. Lester ZACHER, conducted her final rites in the chapel of the Kemper
Marsh Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Mrs. Merrell TAYLOR was the soloist.
Pallbearers were Arnold EVANS, C.O. ANDERSON, Jr., Ed STRASSEMEIER, Irl ELLIOT, Edgard
HILL and Mr. FUGATE. Interment was in the Troy City Cemetery.
Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection": Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO. She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
