Obituary for George Washington Monroe (1855-1912)
No. 089 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of
Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.
George Washington MONROE was born near Hawk Point, August 27, 1855, being, at the time of his death, 57 years and 21 days old. His wife, who was Miss Emily Jane KINION, was born near Troy, Nov. 6, 1860, being at the time of her death, 51 years, 10 months and 12 days old. They were married June 5, 1877. Eight children were born to their union, of whom the following survive: Lillie May, the wife of Chas. MILLER, of Hannibal; Emery Leonard of Foley; George O. of Hannibal; Viola Ellen, wife of S. D. BAILEY of Old Monroe, and Lucy Henrietta.
Mr. and Mrs. MONROE were both instantly killed by a Burlington train near Firma the night of September 18, 1912. They both professed faith in their Lord about fifteen years ago and united with the Foley Baptist church, being members in good standing at the time of their tragic death.
Funeral services were conducted by the writer, assisted by Eld. W. A. BIBB, on Sept. 20, at Oak Ridge, where the bodies were laid together in the grave to await the resurrection morn. May little Lucy and all the bereaved be comforted by Him who doeth all things well, and at last be brought into a place of rest and meet loved ones gone before is our prayer.
-J.S. EAMES
