Obituary for Thomas Beecham McDonald (1838-1906)

Thomas Beecham MCDONALD was born in Howard county, Mo., August 25, 1838, and died near
Auburn, Feb. 26, 1906, after an illness of six months.
He was the son of Hiram and Nancy MCDONALD; his father died Oct. 27, 1882; his mother is
now in her 88th year a worthy Christian mother in Israel. In his father's family there
were five boys and three girls; two boys and two girls are yet living. He was married to
Miss Mary A. STONE, June 28, 1860, by Rev. Jesse SITTON. To this union there were born
four girls and one boy; Alexander Hiram, Mrs. Emma GIBSON, Mrs. Vallie ACHOR, Miss Lizzie;
Mrs. Olivia WATTS died eight years ago. He had lived in the Auburn neighborhood since he
was six weeks old. He was a splendid citizen, honest, industrious, economical. His voice
and example were always for temperance and every interest protecting the morals of the
community.
He professed religion and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Auburn thirty
or forty years ago and was elected a ruling elder in the church twenty-six years ago. He
has lived a useful Christian life; ___ an elder he was a wise counselor and a faithful,
consecrated worker; he loved to meet in presbytery with his brethren and was a liberal
supporter of his church in all of her benevolences. He was indeed a pillar in the Auburn
church. He was a good man and true, faithful in every relationship, in the family, in the
church and in the community. His loss will be felt in the church as well as in the home.
His funeral was preached in the Auburn church to a large con____ of his neighbors and
friends, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Auburn cemetery. "And ___
heard a voice from Heaven saying write blessed are the dead who died in the Lord from
henceforth; yea sayeth the spirit, they do rest from their labour and their works do fo__
them."

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection": Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO. She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
