Obituary for John William Linnert (1879-1912)
No. 078 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of
Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.
Though the news was not unexpected, yet the announcement of the death of John W. LINNERT at the home of his parents on Sunday, October 19, threw a deep gloom of sorrow over the entire community. Several months ago he was taken to a hospital in St. Louis where an operation was suffered. As he had about recovered from this other diseases set in which gradually made him weaker. Several weeks before his death he was brought to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. LINNERT, in the Steinhagen vicinity where the tenderest of care was given him. Despite the most skilled medical and parental care, he gradually grew weaker until Sunday, October 19, when his spirit took its flight to a better world. He was born June 11, 1879, and attained to the age of 33 years, 4 months and 8 days.
February 21, 1906, he was married to Helene M. TWELLMAN, which union was blessed with one child, Viola. July 13, 1911, he suffered a deep grief by the departure of his devoted wife to the beautiful world beyond. Besides his little daughter, he leaves his heart broken parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. LINNERT; one sister, Lizzie; four brothers, William, Emil, Henry and Otto, and other relatives and friends.
The diseased was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical church at Steinhagen and lived a consistent Christian life. He was prepared to meet his Master when the summons came.
Funeral services were held from the home Monday, October 21, at 1:00 p.m. and from the Evangelical church here at 1:30. The pastor and Dr. KRIEGE spoke words of consolation and Mrs. J.H. DYER and the church choir rendered appropriate music. After the services the body was laid to rest in the city cemetery.
