Obituary for Elsa Knox (1863-1913)
No. 076 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of
Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.
Mrs. Elsa KNOX was born near Troy, October 20, 1863, and died at her home in Auburn, June 25, 1913, at 4:15 p.m., hence she was 44 years, 8 months and 5 days of age.
She was the daughter of H.M. and Mary E. MOORE and one of a family of six children, four boys and two girls, four of whom are living to mourn the loss of a devoted sister.
Her early education was in the schools of Troy, but later took a course in college at Fulton, Mo., and for eight years taught school in Lincoln county. There was combined in her the elements of an efficient and successful teacher, whether she labored in day school or Sunday school. She was married to Dr. J.A. KNOX June 21st, 1905, and they lived happily together at their home in Auburn until the end came. She became a Christian and united with the Troy Presbyterian church February 10, 1889, and in that communion she lived a devoted Christian until called by the Master to her eternal home. She was naturally of a modest retiring nature, but from her childhood developed that sweet, noble, lovable spirit which made her influence a power for righteousness wherever she lived.
Her funeral service was held at the residence of her parents in Troy and her remains interred in the Troy cemetery. May the Heavenly Father's blessing be on the bereaved ones.
--R.O. ELMORE
