Obituary for John William Jones (1851-1912)
No. 074 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

John William JONES died at his home in Moscow Mills, March 16th, 1912, at 1:23, p.m. He had been a sufferer for a number of years, but was not bedfast until about four weeks ago. He was born in Lincoln county Aug. 5th, 1851. Was married to Nancy Jane SIMPSON, August 20th, 1874. To this union four children were born, William Edgar, James Shannon, Andrew Pearl, and Wiley Simpson. The first two died in early childhood. Mr. JONES spent all his life in this county, except two or three years spent in St. Louis.

He was a good man and held the respect of all who knew him. He was a good neighbor, a good husband, and a kind and considerate father. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Moscow Mills, and considered it his duty to live up to the principles taught by Free Masonry, and endeavored to do so to the very best of his ability. He was rational to the very moment of his death. A short while before he died, he called the family to him, and bade them goodbye. He was prepared and ready to go. Death held no terrors for him; to the contrary, it was a welcome release from his pains. There was no fear as to the result, and there is every reason to believe that he is at rest. He was 60 years, 7 months and 11 days of age. He leaves a companion, two sons, and his only brother, George, and a multitude of friends to mourn his death.

Services were held in the home, after which the remains were taken to the Highland Prairie cemetery, where they were laid in their final resting place, Monday, March 18th. At the grave the Masons performed their last beautiful and solemn rites. So ends the life of our friend and brother, and we bid him farewell till we shall meet him beyond the valley and the shadow of his death, where partings are no more.
