Death of former Iola, Kas., Resident Occurs here at 85.

Mrs. Mary E. GEAR, 85 years old, died today at the Providence hospital. Mrs. GEAR had been a resident of Iola, Kas., until five years ago when she moved to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ray BUSENBARK, 3040 Washington avenue, Kansas City, Kansas.

Active in church organizations, Mrs. GEAR was a member of the Methodist church in Iola and the past president of the American Legion auxiliary of Iola. She was a Gold Star mother.

Besides the daughter, Mrs. GEAR leaves a granddaughter, Mrs. C.J. SLAWSON, and a great-grandson, James Jean SLAWSON, both of Manhattan, Kas.

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
