Obituary for James H. Clark (dates unknown)
No. 026 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

James H. CLARK died at his home two and a half miles south of Troy Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock, of paralysis, aged about 62 years.

He had a slight stroke several months ago, and while not well, he was in his usual health a short time before the fatal stroke. He had started to leave the room when he fell near the door. He was assisted to the bed and remained in a semi conscious condition for 23 hours, when he died. He was the last remaining child of William CLARK, "Uncle Billy," a pioneer citizen of Clark township, and was born and lived all his life on the farm where he died. Some thirty years ago he was married to Miss Kate WILLIAMS, a twin sister of Assessor J.C. WILLIAMS, and a most estimable lady.  She and several grown children are left to cherish his memory.

Mr. CLARK was a man far above the average in intelligence and information, and was a man who not only kept posted as to current events, but did much miscellaneous reading also.

He was a good husband and father and a good citizen. During the civil war he was an ardent supporter of the South, and he and a number of other young men of his community were among the first to go to PRICE's army when the war broke out. He believed he was right then, and he believed he was right to the day of his death.

He was buried at the family cemetery on the farm yesterday afternoon by the Moscow Masonic lodge, of which he had been a member for a number of years. Peace to his ashes and sympathy to  those who mourn.

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
