Obituary for Clement Lewis Callahan (1889-1918)
No. 019 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

Clement Lewis CALLAHAN was born at Flint Hill, Mo., Dec. 12, 1889, and died at his home in St. Louis Dec. 5, 1918. The greater part of his life was spent in the vicinity of Troy, where he grew to manhood.

About four years ago his health failed, following an operation from which he could never regain his strenth, but he bore all patiently and hopefully. I do not think it amiss to make special mention here of the never-tiring efforts of his brothers and the patient and loving care of his devoted mother, no effort on their part was spared to save his life.

Clem was loved because of his kind and thoughtful disposition, and taken from us as it were in the very bloom of youth, our grief seems doubly hard to bear, yet let us ever try to bear in mind that God who gives us life has also the right to take it whenever He, in His infinite wisdom, sees fit.

Besides scores of friends and relatives he leaves to mourn his death, his mother, Mrs. Margaret E. CALLAHAN, and brothers as follows: William A., of Flint Hill, Thos. R. HENEBRY, of Troy, and Jos. J. and Gregory, J., of St. Louis.

The funeral took place Sunday, Dec. 8, 1918, at Josephville, Mo., after which the remains were laid to rest beside his father who preceded him to the grave several years.

May the thought of this, our great loss, be to us an inspiration towards leading a better life, so that we may again be united in the life to come, where separation is no more, is our prayer. May his soul rest in peace.

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
