Obituary for Albert Eastman Benedict (1836-1913)

Albert Eastman BENEDICT was born in Tompkins Co. N.Y. March 20, 1836. Died Jun 16, 1913, having attained the age of 77 years, 2 months, 26 days. Deceased was of a family of six children born to Levi and Veshta EASTMAN BENEDICT all of whom except a sister preceded him to the grave. Being left motherless in his early teens the "call of the West" was answered and he came to Chain of Rocks, this county, in 1853.
When the Civil war began he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was in some hard fought battles under General PRICE.
In the year 1870 he bought the farm upon which he has lived ever since, and upon which
he died. On February 16, 1871, he was married to Miss Olive E. HINES. To this union were
born two children, Byron C. of Kampsville, Ill., and Mrs. R.R. HARDESTY of Cuba, Mo., who
with a wife, five grand children and a sister, Mrs. Lois SMITH of Homer, N.Y., survive.

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection": Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO. She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
