Obituary for Elizabeth Henry Ball (1829-aft 1903)
AKA Elizabeth Henry DYER
No. 004 - Partially cited Louisiana Times clipping from the "Neva Murphy
Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.
Mrs. Elizabeth Henry BALL, who was stricken with paralysis a few days ago, died last Thursday evening at the home of her son, Ned BALL, near Bellflower.
Mrs. BALL was born in Henry county, Va., July 8, 1829. She was a daughter of David and Nancy DYER, who were the father and mother of twelve children. The father, with his family, migrated to Missouri in 1835, and settled on Big Creek, near Troy, Lincoln county.
She was married to Capt. John E. BALL, April 17, 1850. Her husband died in this city in 1906. She was the mother of nine children. The eldest David A. BALL, lives in this city. Mrs. Nellie VANDERGIFT lives in Marshall, Mo.; J.F. BALL in Montgomery City; Bailey and Ned BALL in Bellflower; G. R. BALL, who died a few years ago; Claude R. BALL at Montgomery City; Wm. S. BALL at Washington, D.C. and Laura W. BALL, who died in infancy, are the other children.
Mrs. BALL united with the Primitive Baptist church at Sand Run in 1867, and was a
member of the church at Elkhorn, near Buell, Mo. Her husband served in the Mexican War
under Sterling PRICE. He also served through the Civil war in the Union army, having
organized company E, in the Forty-ninth Missouri Regiment. March 4, 1913, Congress passed
and President TAFT signed a special pension bill which gave her $25 per month. Nearly two
years ago Mrs. BALL fell and broke her hip, since then she has not been able to walk. Mrs.
BALL, who had hoped to see her son David, governor of Missouri, was a typical pioneer and
had little use for the fashions and styles of the present day. --Louisiana Times
