John F. WILSON, county surveyor, was born near Lexington, Va., on the 4^th of April, 1823. His father, James WILSON, was born in Ireland, and when but six years of age was brought to the United States and was reared in Virginia, where he married Miss Ann McCOWEN, who died in 1831, leaving five children. James WILSON then married a Miss ANDERSON. He was a farmer and distiller by occupation and in his political views was a Whig. His death occurred in 1855. John F. WILSON is the eldest of his father’s family and was educated in the high school near home. His favorite study was mathematics, which he pursued as far as trigonometry. He became a resident of St. Louis County, Mo., in 1846 and he there farmed and acted as justice of the peace. In 1847 Elizabeth D. LASLEY became his wife. She was born in the "Old Dominion," and was brought by her parents to Missouri when three years of age. They came to Lincoln County in 1855, and here the mother died in 1875. The following year Mrs. Attillia (COPHER) McCULLOCH became his wife. His first union resulted in the birth of four sons and two daughters, and to the last union one daughter was born. Mr. WILSON affiliates with the Democratic party, and in 1872 was chosen county surveyor, which position he has filled continuously to the present time. He and wife are members of the Christian Church, and he is a Mason and a prosperous farmer of the county, owning at the present time 160 acres of land.
