Families of Lincoln County, Missouri
Mystery Photos - Dryden - Massie Families
From the Collection of Loyd Groshong
Unidentified Male
This picture was found in an old album along with other pictures of the Dryden family. Littleton T Dryden and his wife Jane moved to Shasta County CA with their daughters Ella and Mary Jane. Ella, b. 1857, married Jim Massie, had one child, Leona, b. 1888, and adopted another, Orelle Ruth McCutcheon, b. 1895. (The family also feature elsewhere on the Lincoln County website.)
This photograph we believe is Ella Dryden Massie. (The pin she wears is like the one worn on her other identified picture)
This picture was found with the others, but we have no clues as to who this family might be. Is this the same man as in the first picture? Are they a Dryden family?
This man is we believe a Massie man. Possibly Uncle Jim Massie.
The Massie family lived around Hurricane Township, Snow Hill and Winfield from 1850s, until the early 1900s. The first Massie in Lincoln County was Robert Graham Massie and wife Elizabeth Foley, from VA. He farmed for his brother in law, Addison Foley, and had a number of children who married into the Dryden family amongst others. One son, Henry F Massie, was well known in Lincoln County.
We would like help to identify any of these pictures, and hope someone has similar
identified pictures.
