James Thomas and American Jane ALLISON CALVIN Family

The photo was taken circa 1914/5 at the Greene Co. MO farm of James and America J. CALVIN. The CALVIN family moved to Greene Co., MO from Lincoln/Pike Co., MO prior to 1889.

The people in the photo are:

James Thomas CALVIN born Aug. 5, 1848 died July 23, 1927, married America Jane ALLISON Oct 26, 1871 Lincoln Co., MO.

America Jane ALLISON born July 28, 1853 Jasper Co., MO, daughter of America Jane MARTIN & Robert ALLISON. Granddaughter of Lewis Graves MARTIN (see Lewis G. MARTIN) and Belinda RUCKER MARTIN. Died Nov. 1, 1930.

Mary Jane CALVIN daughter of James T. and America J. CALVIN, born Mar. 31, 1889, died Aug 19, 1975. Married Dec. 14, 1921 Charles Alanthus PATTERSON (not in picture) born Jan 24, 1877, died Jan. 2, 1966.

 

Excerpt from a letter to Mary Jane CALVIN PATTERSON from Annie McCORMICK MARTIN (see Richard H. MARTIN family photo) dated Nov. 1, 1925 and sent from Las Animas, CO where Annie was visiting her daughter and son-in-law Lula and Howard L. WATTS.

"Jane My Dear Niece, I guess you have been expecting an answer from your last letter. Well I told you all I could and sent back to Winfield for your Grandpa (Lewis Graves MARTIN) pension papers it was Just what Company and date of his army records nothing about his marriages or anything that will help. I was taking care of it for my childrens sake as they are MARTINs, it may some day help them in an honorable way but not financialy as he (Lewis) had 21 brothers and sisters. MARTINs every where. I see the papers as soon as they could be sent it will be of no use to you Jane am sorry I cant help any more. What I sent you was all Lula and I could find. He had no Bible had the leaves of childrens births he had torn out but the rats or mice destroyed them."

James "Jim" William CALVIN son of James T. and America J. CALVIN, born July 12, 1876, died Jan. 27, 1954. Married Oct. 13, 1903 Mollie G. GREENWADE born 1879 died 1925.

Richard Edward "Ed" CALVIN son of James T. and America J. CALVIN, born Oct. 31, 1877, died May 1, 1965.

Tom GREENWADE nephew of Mollie G. GREENWADE CALVIN. Tom was raised by James W. and Mollie CALVIN after something happened to his parents. Tom became a scout for the New York Yankees baseball team. He discovered and signed Mickey Mantle to his first professional baseball contract.

Anna Lee CALVIN daughter of James W. and Mollie CALVIN.

Mamie Eva CALVIN daughter of James T. and America J. CALVIN, born Apr 19, 1885, died Nov. 19, 1973, married Emory Floyd THARP prior to 1914.
